Dark Web? Also known as the Deep Web is a portion of the Internet typically hidden to common search engines like Google and Bing. However, traffic that can lead to the Dark Web maybe disguised as something tempting, like playing a video game or reading a story. Guests are then either led to other dangerous or insidious information and/or compromising graphics. Much in the same way the character Nemo in the 2003 film Finding Nemo was warned by his father not to go into deep waters, so we warn our children and students to be more observant when browsing the Internet, just like we would tell them not to talk to strangers or take ice cream or candy from people they do not know. The Dark Web and/or Deep Web was added to Dictionary.com in 2015 to categorize this area of the Internet.
This article explains to teachers how the Dark Web is set up. Take and use what you deem is appropriate for your students to better understand how to be aware of the Dark Web and its potential dangerous pitfalls.
